The Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) introduces cadets to organised mountaineering and adventure activities in a professional training environment.
NCC conducts mountaineering courses through recognised institutes including NIM Uttarkashi, HMI Darjeeling, JIM & WS Pahalgam, NIMAS Dirang, ABVIMAS Manali and IHCAE Namchi.
The objective of adventure training is not limited to mountaineering skills. It also helps develop stamina, endurance, self-confidence, team spirit and esprit-de-corps.

What should cadets expect?
A BMC is physically demanding and requires cadets to adapt to a mountain environment. Training can involve activities such as trekking, climbing techniques, rope work, movement over difficult terrain and outdoor survival skills.
Cadets should be prepared for:
- Long periods of physical activity
- Trekking and walking on mountain terrain
- Basic climbing and rope techniques
- Outdoor living and changing weather
- Team-based activities
- Maintaining discipline in a challenging environment
Why consider BMC?
For an NCC cadet, BMC can be a great way to develop physical endurance, confidence, resilience and team spirit while experiencing a completely different training environment.
